8 Million Bloggers...

...can't be wrong.  That's the latest figure from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, culled from their memo (i.e. not a full-blown report) on The State of Blogging, issued on January 2nd.  Some other interesting numbers:

  • 32 million people read blogs (that's 27% of internet users, and the number increased 58% in 2004)
  • 11 million people read blogs frequently (9% of internet users)
  • 14 million people have posted comments or other material to a blog (12% of internet users)
  • 6 million people use an aggregator or newsreader (5% of internet users)

But before we get too giddy, it's just as interesting to note that 62% of internet users don't even know what a blog is.  Great read, and it's just 4 pages.  It's also a useful update to Pew's Online Content Creation report, issued in February 2004.
