1. Any power we have distorts what others choose to tell us and what we choose to hear.
2. The more power we have relative to someone else, the more distortion in the dialogue.
3. Any unpleasant truths we hear from someone with less power than we have are Precious Gifts, and should be treated accordingly.
4. All that said, feedback is not a gift.

What a perfect message for Father’s Day that applies to all of us parents.
Thank you!
Thanks, Chris–that’s a great reminder that these dynamics are in play not only in difficult or stressful relationships, but also in warm and loving ones as well. Even when we’re with people we care about deeply, power dynamics can influence what we say, what we hear, and how we communicate in general. Hope you had a great Father’s Day 🙂
