Duty of Confidentiality
I do not disclose my clients' identities, any information that would identify them as a client, or any details of my work with them without their permission. This includes any interactions with a client's employees, employers, colleagues, board members, investors, friends, family or other contacts.
I do not provide references or ask current or past clients to speak with prospective clients.
Duty to Disclose
My primary obligation is to each individual client, and I have a duty to disclose to each client any information that I believe they would view as material. This includes any information shared with me by a client's employees, employers, colleagues, board members, investors, friends, family or other contacts.
As a consequence, I cannot maintain confidentiality with any other party if doing so would prevent me from sharing material information with a client.
Exceptions and Conflicts
I reserve the right to make an exception to these policies if I believe that some harm may come to a client or another person.
In the event that these policies conflict, I will strive to effect a compromise that enables me to uphold their spirit.
If you're a client...
...and you'd like me to talk with one of your contacts, please refer them to this page or convey its contents to them. Emphasize that I cannot maintain their confidentiality if doing would would entail withholding material information from you. If there's any specific information that you would like me to feel free to disclose to your contact, please let me know in advance.
If you're a client's contact...
...and my client has granted permission for us to speak, please note that I have both a duty of confidentiality and a duty to disclose with my client. At the same time, I have neither a duty of confidentiality nor a duty to disclose with you. I will strive to ensure that our conversation is mutually productive while abiding by these commitments.
